About the Project

A Florida cottage, rebuilt from the studs and dressed for the coast.

Beachside Retreat is a coastal-cottage rebuild in South Florida where Nakamura Contractors took an aging single-family home down to the framing and rebuilt it for a young family. Board-and-batten siding in a soft mint runs the exterior, white Bahama shutters tilt out over every window for shade and storm season, and a bright orange door anchors the entry. The result reads unmistakably Florida coastal.

Inside, the brief was light and easy to live in. Sky-blue walls carry the upstairs bedrooms, dark wood-look laminate flooring grounds the rooms, and a tropical tile inlay gives the floors a hand-laid feel without the upkeep. Every window opens to the neighborhood of palms and pitched metal roofs, the kind of view a Florida beach home is meant to have.

Like every Nakamura build, the same in-house team carried the project from the framing through the finish paint. Old structure repaired, new exterior detailed for the climate, interior finished room by room. Honest, family-scaled work, from the studs to the front step.

We were extremely pleased with Nakamura Contractors. We had storm damage in our master bedroom, front master closet and shower area of our bath. Edson and his crew worked nonstop to get us back into our room. They were able to recreate our master suite, plus add some additional upgrades like the chandelier ceiling fan, upgraded recessed lighting, boxed molding accent wall, and beautiful new porcelain slab flooring. They installed two additional chandeliers, one to our foyer, and another to our main dining room. We also asked them to install an ethernet connection to our master bedroom to give us better internet coverage. They were able to create our vision and we are so grateful.

Edson and his crew did an amazing job in our office in Boynton Beach. We had a great experience from the beginning to the end of the project. They are truly experts in what they do. They work fast without compromising the quality of the work which is exactly what we needed to start doing business at our new location. Highly recommended.

We had a great experience with Edson and the team at Nakamura Contractors. After a roof leak caused extensive water damage, we had to completely rebuild an attached bedroom and bathroom. We met with several contractors before deciding on Nakamura, and we’re very glad we did. There were a few challenges along the way, especially finding a discontinued roofing material to match our existing roof, but Edson really went out of his way to help us find a solution and keep the project moving. The quality of the work was excellent, communication was always easy, and Edson and his team were a pleasure to work with. Most importantly, everything turned out beautifully.

Five stars! Edson and his team were very easy to work with, and gave us a kitchen we are very pleased with. Any concerns were always addressed quickly and to our satisfaction. Delays from suppliers did put Nakamura Contractors in a difficult position. However, Edson and his team always kept us advised, and made things right in the end. I would not hesitate to recommend Nakamura Contractors.

Great company to communicate with! I haven’t had any work done by them personally yet, but they’ve been very friendly, professional, and quick to respond to questions. It’s refreshing to deal with a company that is so responsive and easy to communicate with.

Taylor and Edson designed the bathroom of our dreams. They listened to what we wanted and needed. Design changes were done as requested. Advised us when changes we were thinking about wouldn’t work and showed us what would. Enjoyed working with both of them!! Will do it again when it’s time to do our Kitchen.

I couldn't be happier with the work Nakamura Contractors did on our home renovation. From start to finish, they were professional, honest, and incredibly detail-oriented. They kept us informed throughout the entire process, showed up when they said they would, and delivered outstanding craftsmanship. The quality of the finished work exceeded our expectations, and it's clear they take pride in what they do. They treated our home with respect, kept the work area clean, and made the entire renovation process as stress-free as possible. If you're looking for a contractor who is reliable, skilled, and truly cares about customer satisfaction, I highly recommend Nakamura Contractors. We would absolutely use them again for future projects!

How we built it

Three movements, one continuous build.

Survey & Plan

Walk the existing structure, document what stays and what comes out, conversations with the family about how the home needs to live. Drawings and permits before the first board is removed.
Strip & Reframe

Down to the studs where it needs to be. Reframing, hurricane bracing, new mechanicals, fresh exterior sheathing. The slow, structural work that nobody sees but everything else sits on.
Skin & Finish

Board-and-batten siding, Bahama shutters, painted exterior, interior drywall and floors, fixture install and punch-list. Sequenced by the same in-house team end-to-end. Keys hand over when the home is ready to be lived in.
